Family Dinner
LOCATED ON 6000 LEVEL
Family Dinner is a Chinese cookbook that encourages second-generation immigrants to reconnect with their culture
Problem Space
Young adult, second-generation immigrants in America often feel disconnected from their heritage due to the pressure to assimilate and generational gaps in their families. Growing up in between two cultures creates a challenging and complex sense of identity dissonance – as if they don’t fully belong to either. Over time, this pressure culminates into a distancing of one’s cultural roots. As they get older, this distance becomes a barrier, making reconnection feel difficult or out of reach.
Design Solution
This cookbook encourages second-generation Chinese immigrants to reconnect with their roots and spark meaningful conversations about the importance of meals in Chinese culture. Through personal anecdotes & simple recipes, it celebrates the everyday dishes that carry tradition, memory, and identity. Family Dinner is an open invitation to cook, share, and rediscover culture around the dinner table.
