Nature Nextdoor is a modular signage system that helps people notice and connect with their local wildlife
Problem Space
Visitors move through Burnet Woods as a pass-through space rather than a place to observe, learn, or connect. While the park holds rich layers of wildlife activity and ecological systems, these are largely unnoticed without guidance. Existing signage is minimal, static, and easy to overlook, offering little incentive to stop, engage, or return. There is a disconnect between what the park contains and what visitors actually experience, resulting in missed opportunities for awareness, stewardship, and emotional connection.
Design Solution
This project introduces a flexible signage system that blends clear communication with moments of discovery and reflection. Instead of fixed information, it uses short prompts and wildlife-driven content to help visitors notice patterns, behaviors, and seasonal change within their surroundings. Placed at natural pause points, the system aligns with how people move through the park, turning everyday visits into small but meaningful opportunities for learning and connection.
