Problem Space
Home gardening has numerous benefits related to physical and mental health that aren’t leveraged by young people transitioning into adulthood, especially those who feel they don’t have the space, resources, or skill to garden. Home gardening is proven to build stress resilience while providing a lower stakes sense of responsibility for those in a time of life associated with loss of pre-established community and habits as young adults experience milestone events.
Design Solution
New Roots offers an interactive solution that encourages learning and playing at the same time. New gardeners are encouraged to try and aren’t criticized if they fail. Rather than being centered around heavily informative instruction, new gardeners are provided recommendations and cost-saving options for how to best care for garden plants. Through simple, at-home solutions and creates a low-to-no-cost experience without sacrificing the benefits and outputs of larger-scale gardening.
