E-waste, otherwise known as electronic waste, is one of the fastest growing waste streams in the world, yet people don’t see it happening. Many of us upgrade our devices as technology improves without thinking about where the old ones go or what impact they have on the environment. Additionally, there are valuable resources in e-waste that can be reused and repurposed.
Design Solution
Recircuit is a service system that pairs a locker-style kiosk with a mobile app to make e-waste recycling simple and rewarding. Users prep their device in-app, find a kiosk, scan a QR code, and deposit their item to earn points redeemable at local sustainable businesses. The app also educates users on e-waste and reinforces the impact of each action. At its core, Recircuit reduces waste by shifting everyday habits and supporting a more circular tech ecosystem.
