Problem Space
Young newcomers in urban environments want to connect with their communities but often don’t know where to start. Without established networks, they can feel intimidated entering unfamiliar spaces and overwhelmed by fragmented, impersonal information about what’s happening around them. This makes neighborhood connection feel inaccessible, difficult to discover, and lacking in authenticity.
Design Solution
Urban Kin is a zine that lowers the barrier to community engagement by making local connection feel approachable, actionable, and human. Through curated content and an inviting tone of voice, it guides young urban residents toward shared experiences while encouraging them to explore their interests, meet new people, and build strong, real connections within their city.
